Neighborhood, Court and Public Disputes

Neighbors, friends, family members, business associates ...
Poorly managed conflicts can cost you or your group significantly - mentally, physically, financially and legally. Whether the courts are involved, issues of public policy are at stake, or your situation involves a private matter between friends, MFR may be able to help.

Neighborhood disputes include issues such as property boundaries, noise and nuisance, accidents, rumors, malicious destruction of property and minor criminal issues. Although some of these issues can be referred to the police or filed in court as minor criminal claims, other issues may be resolved more effectively through mediation. As an alternative to a "win or lose" hearing by a judge or a visit from the police, mediation can help parties reach a longer lasting, more satisfying resolution that resolves the situation and maintains relationships. MFR provides these services to make you and your neighborhood safer.

Parties in conflict over a wide range of disputes have the option of filing a complaint in court. Mediation is offered in most courts in Massachusetts as an alternative to trials or hearings. MFR is court-approved to mediate in Malden and Woburn District Courts. MFR also works in collaboration with mediation programs in several other courts. Through these and other services we can help you to mediate before your court date, learn about how the courts work and help you to prepare for court and court-related mediation.
